Prospecting for new slate quarries is one of the major endeavors consistently pursued by Green Slate since the year 2000. Overall areas comprising approximately 500 thousand hectares, to date, have been granted prospecting permits.
In the course of the last 7 years Green Slate has been able to develop and to apply state-of-the art technologies for prospecting slate allowing improvement of extraction processes, greater yield, cutting down rejects and, most important, greatly reducing environmental impacts. Large slate deposits have been found.
Large graphite deposits have recently been found. This is regarded as a major prospecting breakthrough given the wide range of industrial applications for graphite, from the manufacture of pencils to other uses such as industrial lubricant and recarbonizer in the steel industry.
Prospecting activities by Green Slate are carried out by full time teams for field work, drilling and core classification.
Core samples collected in drilling sites are classified and stored in sheds to enable the opening of new slate quarries.
